About me
I’m Amanda
My journey began in graphic design, where I started to appreciate the value of good design and its impact on how people perceive the world around them. From there, I pivoted to industrial design, graduating from the University of Alberta in 2015. During this time, I honed my skills and launched my business, Béton Brut Design, in 2014. This project transformed my fascination with concrete into a jewelry line that blends traditional crafting methods with modern 3D printing techniques.
Over the years, Béton Brut Design has gained recognition from galleries across North America, including prominent institutions like the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. This experience enabled me to explore how design can bridge artistic expression and functionality while connecting people to urban materials in a new way.
Through this journey, I realized that my passion for design is fundamentally about connecting people and helping them to see the world in a different way. This understanding led me to transition to digital product design, recognizing that much of our interactions today occur on computers. I believe the future of design is digital, and it is here that I can make the most significant impact, helping people better understand and appreciate the world around them.
What I do for fun:
When I’m not designing, you can find me in my studio experimenting with new materials or engaging in activities that push my limits—whether that’s learning a new skill, trying a new sport, or travelling to unfamiliar places. I am always curious and continuously growing through design books, online classes, and creative projects that keep me inspired and evolving.
